Jeff Lynne Doll w/goldtop
1998 | US
This is a one of a kind prototype of a doll that was never mass produced. It
stands 12 inches tall and has a minuature Gibson Les Paul Goldtop.
UPDATES 8/22/2010: There were actually five or six made. My records on the exact number are spotty at best. One original that was very simple and had a Brown jacket and hand made mini guitar. Two using a Spinal Tap doll box and guitar with a black jacket (One had a microphone). And Three with the Spinal Tap box and a cool black and white shirt (The last two had improved box graphics.) I still have parts to make one more. The back of all boxes has nothing printed. It's just solid black permanent marker over the Spinal Tap info. Oh and by Prototype, I mean home made. I always meant to send the idea to a toy maker, but knew since ELO had not been around since 1986 it was probably not going to happen.
These first two pics are of the third doll. This doll was sent to a fan in the USA and is out there somwhere.
Here is what the final two dolls look like at my collection in 2010. The graphics are also cleaner and the sig is much nicer. The third pic shows the blank back and the fourth pic are two in storage. The final doll in storage has a cleaner cut beard like Jeff sported in the early 90s. I never thought the dolls worth anything so I just placed them on the shelf.
Here is the original Spinal Tap Box and doll. Notice the guitar and box will be modified and all parts matched up to an ELO box.
Here is the second version that used a GI Joe doll and Spinal Tap Box. This is similar to the doll on ebay during August of 2010. (Notice the Trigger finger is shaped to fire a gun. and it has a microphone.)
A few fun Facts: You may notice that there is a picture of Bevs book cover in the box. I did this because I was madly searching for a copy of Bev's book at the exact same time I was doing these dolls and had finally found a copy. The person I sent a doll too in the UK, sent me an autographed copy of Bev's book.
Here is what the very first one looked like with a home made box and guitar. This doll was sent to a fan in Japan.
